What I’d like in a Tufton 2

It’s not everyday you get the opportunity to design a speaker, and seeing as I’ve not yet been offered the chance I decided I’d make my own dream sheet for one of my favorite speakers: The Marshall Tufton.

Marshall Tufton in my Living Room

Currently the specs are as follows:

Bluetooth: 5.0

Weather Proofing: IPX2

Battery: 20+ Hours

Speakers: 1x40W 2x15W 1x10W

Power Supply: Mains

Codec Options: SBC/Aux Input

Price: Check Here

If I were to get my way for the Tufton 2:

Bluetooth: 5.3 with some proprietary linking options between other Marshall Speakers for Stereo Pairing. I know that the new protocol from the SIG (Special Interest Group) will have Auracast and Broadcast abilities which will inherently carry these features, but until that technology is pushed out for real, we are stuck with a bunch of Marshall speakers that won’t ply nicely with each other.

Weather Proofing: IP67 (What’s the point of having an outdoor speaker if it can’t bear the slightest rainstorm or dunk in a pool?)

Battery: 30+ Hours (If the Emberton II can do it, so can you Mr. Tufton)

Speakers: Anything as long as it sounds good (I imagine most of the technology is in the signals processing and the software tools, like the Emberton and Willen which came out more recently, they always sound larger than their size would make you think)

Power Supply: Mains + USB C + Charging Port (Yes, we need a USB C charging area for when you don’t have the normal AC Source from a household mains, and other speakers have a charging feature to make use of their large battery capacity to share the wealth should you be out and about)

Codec Options: SBC/Aux Input/ LC3 (SBC is MP3 level quality audio that suffers from great compression and artifacts. It just doesn’t sound as clean as I’d like. This is one of the main reasons we need an updated bluetooth codec, is to take advantage of a better compression scheme. If you haven’t heard the samples of LC3, check it out here)

Price: Check Here (With inflation rates skyrocketing, we’ve also seen huge price increases with the Tufton, how’s about we get away from the 500 dollar area and get back down to a reasonable 300 range?)

In conclusion, we have yet to see what Zound Industries will push forward with Marshall Headphones Tufton Speaker but I can only hope it blows us out of the water and doesn’t end up a dissapointment.
