Best Speakers of 2022

Danny holding some of the best speakers from 2022

Let’s face it, the selection of bluetooth speakers is getting insane. There literally hundreds of brands pumping out speakers from china trying to get in on the speaker money train - and not all of them are very good. Luckily, I’ve compiled a short and sweet list of the ones that stand above the competition.

Portable Small Speakers:

Amazon Echo Dot - Still the best deal for not only a small tiny speaker, at around 20 bucks it’s a killer deal. The sound is decent and so is the bass for this size. You won’t impress your friends with this one or be able to take it on the go, but your wallet will be happy.

Tribit Micro 2 - Ludicrously good sound for the price. This is a no brainer for small speaker lovers. A best buy for sure.  The design is kind of boring.

Marshall Willen - Stylish and loud for it's small size. Features a brass control knob that is easy to operate. Great for hikes and showers.

Bose Flex - The one and only Bose I truly love.  The sound is nuanced and bold when it needs to be. It comes out on top more often that not.

Marshall Emberton II - Style above all else, the Emberton II gets me excited!  The controls and sound are also great, sounds a little smaller than the Bose Flex

B&O A1 - For vocal clarity and classical, the B&O stands out to me. Similar to an Amazon Echo but fancier.  Also the color choice is great!

B&O Explore - The explore stands out for its solid aluminum body that feels great in the hands.  The sound is great, though the B&O A1 is louder

UE Wonderboom 3 - Nearly identical to Wonderboom 2 which means its excellent for its price.  However, seems like a lazy upgrade.  Get whichever is cheapest.

JBL Flip 5 - A little older now, but still with incredible sound. The kind that brings out the soul of the music. Recommend the Flip 6 if you can afford

JBL Flip 6 - A bit more refined that the amazing Flip 5, with bigger "JBL" logo.  This is one of the best mini speakers you can get for sound.

JBL Charge 5 - This one is pretty loud, but not that much louder over the Flip 5.  I think you get more bang out of the Flip than this.

Vifa Helsinki - When sound trumps everything think of Vifa, practicality be damned.  Listened to this in a hotel, amazing sound.

Earfun Uboom L - Surprisingly Clear and Accurate Sound for the price! Just looks a tad boring to me, be sure to update the firmware for Oluf best tuning!

Anker Soundcore Motion Boom - Incredible price to performance speaker! It's a little bigger than most other small speakers, but it definitely delivers a bit more sound!

Anker Soundcore Motion Plus - This one never excited me with its design. But with EQ in the app and a solid build quality you can do a lot with this for not much cash.

Tribit Maxsound Plus - It does one thing well, puts out a lot of bass for very little money. Boring design though.

Portable Big Speakers:

Vifa Oslo - While expensive, the sound is warm, accurate, and clear.  An amazing morning radio for NPR or classical. It looks amazing in person.

Marshall Tufton - This one keeps coming out on top for large portable speakers. 20+ battery, buttery bass, aux in.  You can't go wrong. Beautiful

Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus - Home run. This thing sounds twice it's size for less than half the price. BT 5.3 is a plus for future compatibility too!

Tribit Blast - At 12.3lbs this thing can crank some serious bass. And for an extremely reasonable price. BT 5.3 keeps this relevant for a long time.

UE Hyperboom - Prized for its extremely loud and shimmering sound. The hyperboom is one to beat. I just can't wait to the hyperboom 2 comes out!

Home Speakers:

Klipsch The One II - A beautiful beast of a mid century style speaker. I love my Klipsch and listen to it regularly. Great sound and bass.

Klipsch The Three II - Its like the one but just a little bigger sound and size. I think the one is the best buy for the price, but this will fit some better.

Marshall Stanmore II - A nice compromise between the Acton and Woburn.  The Stanmore II delivers a lot of bass and is big enough to visually impress.

Marshall Woburn II - The loudest sound you can get from Marshall's Homeline. If you can wait for the 3 series do, but this one isn't bad.

Marshall Acton II - I put this here even though it's not my favorite.  Recommend getting the 3 series.  The sound was muddy from my review.

Marshall 3 Series - by far the best thing to come from marshall in sound quality since the first generation of speakers. The Acton III and Woburn III are where it's at. The Stanmore III should be skipped, even though it sounds good - the Acton III is nearly as good for much less. you can check them out here https://marshallheadphones.com/ (not an affiliate link)
